Euskera, Basque in Spanish<\/span>, is a unique, living and different language, of ancestral beauty.<\/p>\n

This enigmatic language is not related to any other known language, so its origin remains an enigma.<\/p>\n

It is currently spoken in the north of Spain, Navarra and the Basque Country, where it is also an official language along with Spanish.<\/p>\n

It is also spoken in the southwest of France.<\/p>\n

Basque is the only non-Indo-European language on the Iberian Peninsula<\/a> and the oldest in Europe.<\/p>\n

The origin of Basque is an enigma
<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The possible link with other languages \u200b\u200bof prehistoric Europe and its unique characteristics have aroused the interest of linguists and anthropologists from all over the world.<\/p>\n

To solve the enigma of its origin there are many hypotheses, but none of them is conclusive.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne theory indicates that it was the same language as Iberian or that both evolved from the same language.<\/p>\n

Like Euskera, Iberian (a dead language spoken in the southeastern regions of the Iberian Peninsula) had little to do with the main languages \u200b\u200bof the region.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of their writing systems was deciphered in the 1920s. We don\u2019t understand it, but it sounds very similar to Basque,\u201d says Salaburu.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Due to this, we also do not know the exact origin of the word euskara<\/em> , however, this term seems to be accredited with the Basque cultural identity.<\/p>\n

Thus, from the word euskara<\/em> derives the word euskaldun<\/em><\/a> (literally \u2018the one who owns euskara\u2019), which designates the speaker of euskera.<\/p>\n

Also from the word Euskara<\/em> originated the term Euskal Herria<\/em><\/a> ,<\/em> referring to the territory in which Euskera was spoken (\u2018the land of Euskera\u2019).<\/p>\n

Currently, in the Statute of Autonomy of the Basque Country it is used as a synonym for \u201cBasque people\u201d.<\/p>\n

The word Euskadi<\/em> , whose origin also comes from the word euskara,<\/em> is a neologism created as an alternative to the expression Euskal Herria<\/em> and currently synonymous with the Basque Country<\/a> .<\/p>\n

Alfonso Irigoyen<\/a> \u200b, a Basque academic with extensive work in Basque and Spanish, proposes that the word Euskara<\/em> comes from the Old Basque verb \u201cto say\u201d, reconstructed as *enautsi<\/em> (maintained in verbal forms such as the Biscayan dinotzat<\/em> , \u201cI tell him\u201d) , and from the suffix -(k)ara<\/em> , \u201cway (of doing something)\u201d.<\/p>\n

Therefore, Euskara<\/em> would literally mean \u201cway of saying\u201d, \u201cway of speaking\u201d, \u201cspeech\u201d or \u201clanguage\u201d.<\/p>\n

Irigoyen presents as evidence to support this theory the work Compendio Historial<\/em> (1571), by the Basque Esteban Garibay, where the author affirms that the native name of the Basque language is \u201cenusquera\u201d.<\/p>\n

The intense relationship that the Basque language maintains with nature is remarkable.<\/p>\n

His vast collection of words to describe its verdant valleys, impressive peaks, blue coastlines and skies were inspired by its natural surroundings.<\/p>\n

Likewise, for example, the word \u201cbutterfly\u201d in Basque can be said in almost a hundred different ways.<\/p>\n
